Subject: Fretless
Phil had three fretless basses that were given to him by the Guild company in '68. He didn't really like them but they became the lab rats for Alembic's bass r&d, enter active electronics. He's pretty much always been a fretted player.

Wow, this is a great show! I don't think I've ever heard it before. Love the mid 70's Dancin' treatment with the downward spiral jazzy treatment as was typical of the period. It gets a solid four, the mix and sound quality could be better.

I don't think Phil ever played a fretless in this era and those killer slides are just made on the fretted. There is a good discussion here on this topic if anyone is interested.

Subject: wish there was a slighly better copy of this
while there is no hiss and this is pretty low gen the sound quality and editing of the crowd banter is not as great as some of the other shows it is however an audience and will cut some slack...

great scarlet miss the fretless bass wish fill would roll that one out again - hot music.... and bless that is a blessed event 6:30 before a word is spoken the happiness is drumming jam sounds like fire without vocals abt a year early and while the wheel and wharf rat are solid dancin is ripping and gets the crowd up and rocking. hard to say if the following night is better..... Ill let someone else figure it out I like both...

Subject: Where is the fire
Am I just confused? I dont see Fire on the set list, and dont remember it being played, as I sat about 6 Rows off the stage. Time to DL and see if I'm crazy, or remember correctly.

This show alone is worth the Eyes, arguably the best this listener has heard. The intro jam and energy is unparallel while the song as a whole maintains throughout. An embryonic Fire also adds added mystique.
